Bless Your Little...Home

Home blessings are quick clean-ups.  Seeing your home clean-ish or tidy-ish is a blessing you give yourself, your family and your home. And the sight of some flowers or some lacey curtains is a blessing and a joy!

Total Home Blessing:

clear kitchen table and counters
feather dust common rooms quickly
sweep or vacuum lightly
spot mop kitchen
swipe toilets with throwaway rags
clean counters and mirrors if necessary
patrol hot spots:
    kitchen table
    kitchen desk
    school table
                                                         mail pile/file
                                                         computer desk in family room
                                                        desk in bedroom

Routines

~Routines make blessing easier~

Morning routine: after breakfast and before school
calendar check-is there anything going on today?
  kitchen check
         dishes washed?
         table and counters clear?
  load of laundry started
 15 minute declutter
kids make bed and brush teeth

Lunchtime routine: after lunch and before school resumes

  kitchen check
            dishes washed?
            table and counters clear?
  15 minute declutter
  supper thoughts--menu, groceries, defrost food
  kids-lunch chores and brush teeth

Bedtime routine: before snuggling into that cozy warm bed
  kitchen check
            dishes washed?
            table and counters clear?
kids-lay out clothes if necessary (church, scouts, homeschool co-op, special day) and brush teeth

Not Perfect But Good...

Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Lower the bar. Actually spending ten minutes clearing off one shelf is better than fantasizing about spending a weekend cleaning out the basement.
~ Gretchen Rubin

You wouldn't even be able to believe how messy the table was before I cleared it off...
well, maybe you would...

Now cast your eye to the right side of the picture where you can get a glimpse of the kitchen counter in all its messy glory.   Just keepin' it real...

My antique organ in its sunny corner, a bit dusty and a bit messy. Not perfect but good.
And I'm in love with it.

(apparently I'm in love with clocks, also...that corner is a work in progress, emphasis on "progress"--although I'm not making much headway these days)

A Pop of Color for Your Kitchen Counter-Scape

As a decorator committed to the Crabby Chic style of decorating, I understand that it's the small details that can make a huge statement. Like coordinating your dish soap to the colors of your kitchen.

But I am about to shatter your notions and suggest that you add a pop of color to your kitchen counter-scape this holiday season. Not only will the change of color be new and exciting, the change might be enough  to remind people that there are dirty dishes in the sink and that they are indeed capable of washing them. (well, a mom can dream, right?)

At the very least the bright and entrancing color and new fragrance should be encouraging to you as you tackle the mound of dirty dishes that you have stacked and arranged in a  pleasing and artful array--but that is a topic for another day.

Real Life Decorating

With real life topics like:

crafting with dust bunnies and dryer lint
organize your life with Braum's bags and zip-loc sandwich baggies
refrigerator magnet arranging
accessorizing with laundry baskets (empty or full)
how to make a trivet out of cookie crumbs and Elmer's glue

It's a decorating style I like to call "Crabby Chic"
